How to get an API key
Eruptian writes your product texts with an AI model you choose. The model is not ours: you bring a key from a provider and pay them directly for what you use. Here is where to get one, and where it goes.
The key
What a key is
A key is a long line of characters that tells a provider a request is yours. Eruptian keeps it encrypted and sends it only to the provider you picked, for your own texts. You can replace it whenever you like, and removing it stops the AI work at once.

Getting one
In three steps
Choose a provider
9 to choose from today, 3 of them with a free tier. The rest want credit on the account before a key does anything.
Create the key
Sign in with that provider, open their keys page and create a new key. Copy it straight away: most providers show it once and never again.
Paste it into Eruptian
On your account page here, or in Settings in the Shopify app. Eruptian keeps one key per provider, so switching later is a button and not a new key.

OpenRouter passes your request on to a model from another provider — hundreds to choose from, some of them free. A free route often comes with that provider's own terms about your data. The model you name decides where your data lands: pick one from DeepSeek or Moonshot and it goes to China.

If it does not work
What the screen says when a key or a model is the problem, and what to do about it.
- The key is refused
- The provider does not recognise it any more, or it belongs to another account there. Create a new key and paste it again.
- No credit left
- The account with the provider is out of credit or past its limit. Top it up with them; Eruptian cannot see your balance.
- Too many at once
- You reached the provider's limit for a short stretch. Wait a moment and try again — importing a whole collection is the usual cause.
- The model is unknown
- The model you picked no longer exists at that provider. Choose another one on your account page.
- The model cannot read photos
- Reading a size chart from a picture needs a model that can see one. Pick a model that can, or another provider.
- The provider is down
- Their side, not yours, and not your key. Try again later.
